Party Politic Games

Alright. I am getting sick and tired of all the politics that is being played in Washington. I know, I know. That's what they do best, but, I don't understand sometimes why they just can't set aside their petty things until this all gets ironed out. WAIT!! I do know. The Democrats need every little game they can play so that the average American can think that there is a major crisis so that it will be easy to make the decision to vote for Obama so that they can regain control of the White House as well as maintain control over the Congress. Oh yes, last thing that needs to happen is that the Republicans need to be the blame for the crisis.

So, this is what happened. The House of Representatives voted against the Economy Recovery Bill that was before them this week. This is the same bill that they blamed the House Republicans for foiling in the meeting last week with the President, both presidential candidates and leaders of both the House and the Senate. But, as these same Republicans said, the Democrats have control and can pretty much pass anything they want, so why are they the bad guys? Nancy Pelosi took this bill to the House for a vote yesterday. The members barely had enough time to read it, let alone figure out what it really said. The Senate was to have the bill for vote tomorrow. Now, if this was such a good deal, why did so many people vote against it? Why did 95 Democrats vote against it? I'll tell you why. Nancy Pelosi wanted to be able to blame everything on the Republicans. Either way it went, she could do that. The media is helping in all of this. They won't tell you that nearly 40% of the Democrats in the House voted against it and 1/3 of the House Republicans voted for it. They only want you to believe it the Republicans who either want the largest Socialist move in this country to take place or don't want to do what it takes to help out the country. She knew she didn't have the votes to make it pass. That's why the big play for the House Republicans. The Democrats couldn't even convince their own party that this bill was the best thing for this country.

The Democrats have a history of trying to create crisis to get your votes. Thirty years ago, we were headed for another Ice Age. Recently, it's been Golbal Warming (Climate Change), the LOST war in Iraq, and now, finally, the economy. There is nothing we can do about the changes in climate. We are winning the War on Terror, icluding the front of Iraq. And, finally, the market will correct itself. It always does. It may be a little painful, and, we may need to pay closer attention to what is going on, but, it will happen.

Will they ever learn?

Economics and the Debate

If you have been paying attention to the media and trying to follow everything that is going on, then you have probably heard that McCain is trying to bring Presidential Politics into someplace that it just doesn't belong. That he is the reason the whole deal fell through. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. Let's look at what actually happened.

First, McCain announces that he is suspending his campaign. The next day, the Democrats in Washington announce that there is a deal. This was before McCain even showed up. Then, the House Republicans (the same people that refused to leave when Pelosi called for their month break because she refused to even consider a vote on an energy bill) announce that they have a better idea than to spend $700 billion out of the treasury. Then the President has a meeting with all the congressional leaders, including McCain and Obama. The meeting ends in catastrophe and they are at square one again.

Now the media would have you believe that McCain is the reason for the meeting to blow up. But, what actually happened is this: the President gave the Democrats the floor. They all deferred to Obama so that he could come in and appear the savior. He basically went through all the talking points that he was given before getting there, and then proceeded to bash the House republicans. McCain never said a word until the very end and even Harry Reid, the leader of the Senate, said that he didn't even understand what McCain had said. Obama is the one who caused the meeting to go haywire.

See, first, the Democrats tried to make it appear like McCain wasn't even needed, by announcing the deal when they didn't actually have one. Then, they tried to spin everything to appear that McCain was just mucking everything up. When, the exact opposite is true.

The House Republicans actually have the right idea now, I think. I will be the first one to admit that I am not an economist. But, they are proposing to keep the taxpayers' money out of this deal. But, as they say, the Democrats can pass whatever they want. They have the majority in both houses and have the support of the President. So, why are they worried about the House Republicans?

Now, to the Debate. First, let me point out the familiarity that Obama tried to portray. He only called Senator McCain Senator McCain a couple of times. Most of the time he called him John. Now, McCain called Obama Senator Obama EVERY time. And besides, Obama surely stutters quite a bit.

Some people think that Obama has a better handle on the economy. I don't think so. He is still hammering away that he is going to cut taxes for 95% of the citizens. The majority of these peoples don't even pay taxes. How can you cut taxes on people who don't pay them to begin with? He still doesn't get this. Besides, he wants to raise taxes on big corporations and says that he is helping out the middle class. NO HE'S NOT!! The corporations just figure all of their costs when they make their prices. The new taxes will raise the costs for the corporations, therefore, their prices go up. Then, everyone, including the middle class, will be paying more for the things they need to buy. How is this helping. Besides, the taxes is one of the major reasons that companies are outsourcing their jobs. IT COSTS LESS!!! When asked if there were any of his plans that he would have to cut because the government is planning on spending $700 billion Obama just kept adding programs that he wanted to spend money on. How is this helping us? IT IS NOT!

Then, they went to Foreign Affairs. This was supposed to be what the entire debate was about. Someone still needs to tell Obama that there aren't two wars right now (Afghanistan and Iraq). They are two separate fronts of the SAME war. He talks like they are two separate things. He also wants to invade Pakistan. He just doesn't understand anything when it comes to how to deal with any of these countries.

If you want to lose the war on terror, pay higher prices and continue to depend on foreign oil, then, Obama is the one you should vote for. That's what I got out of the debate last night.

What a turn of events

In case you missed the President's speech tonight, he laid out the plan for saving the economy. The money that he is asking Congress to allow to be used for all of this is not supposed to be money we are just giving away. It is to allow the bigger companies to be saved by purchasing the mortgage backed investment packages that have gotten everyone in trouble until everything stabilizes and they can be purchased by investors in the future. Secondly, there is to be an independent council to oversee how the money is disbursed. Also, he has called for leaders in Congress, including Obama and McCain, to a conference to finish hashing out all the details and make this a truly bipartisan agreement.

As far as Obama and McCain are concerned, I really don't care who called who first, the fact is, McCain is going to suspend his campaign until there is an agreement made that everyone can live with. He is going to return to Washington to actually do the job that the citizens of Arizona elected him to do. On the other hand, Obama doesn't seem to think that there is any reason for him to go unless they tell him he needs to. So, both men are doing the very thing that they have been doing their entire adult lives. One, serving his country. The other, serving his own ambitions.

Who do we truly want to lead this country?

Sorry it took so long

As the title of this post says, I am sorry it took so long for me to put down another post. There has been quite a bit going on around here. Plus, I was sick and I have been reading quite a bit about this economic mess so that I could make an informed post on everything that is going on.

Let me first take an aside and wish my lovely wife a late HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! It was on Saturday. I was sick. Sorry about that my love, but, you continue to make me the happiest man on the face of the earth.

Now, down to the political business. Like I said, I have been doing quite a bit of reading on everything that is going on. Forgive me, this will be a little long, but, you really do need to stick with it to the end.

So far, we have the fact that the government has to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. First of all, they kind of had to do this. They are government entities. Now, another investment bank went under and one was bought out by Bank of America. See, it is kind of essential to understand that investment banks get all of their money through their investments. Regular banks have people who deposit their money. That is a big source of capital. Well, now, the government has to bail out an investment bank branch of the largest insurance agency in the world and the treasury is asking for $700 billion to correct the market.

Most people have already heard all of that. What they don't know, because the media won't tell them, is what truly lead to all of this. I am going to do a little comparison here.

Something happened almost 40yrs ago called affirmative action. This, in case you don't know, set quotas on the amount of minorities everyone had to hire. What it did was to force companies to hire non-qualified people for positions based solely on the fact that they were a minority. Something very similar happened in the housing market a few years back. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) set quotas on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as to how much of their portfolio was to be considered "affordable housing". The problem was, they never defined what affordable housing was. They set such high quotas, that it encouraged companies to broker mortgages that encouraged people to buy houses that they truly could not afford. They had programs that would provide mortgages to people with little or no verification of income. The mortgage companies would lend the money because they knew that Fannie and Freddie would buy the mortgages. HUD, who was supposed to be overseeing the activities of these two companies, never did.

Alan Greenspan, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006, warned that all this was going to happen in 2005. He told Congress, "If Fannie and Freddie ``continue to grow, continue to have the low capital that they have, continue to engage in the dynamic hedging of their portfolios, which they need to do for interest rate risk aversion, they potentially create ever-growing potential systemic risk down the road,'' he said. ``We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk.''

A reform bill went before the Senate Banking Committee. This bill gave a regulator the power to crack down and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets. Freddie and Fannie would have had to sell off all of the bad paper that they held. Some large institutions would have been buried, but, the market for these mortgages would have no longer existed. Problem averted.

But, the bill never even got to the full Senate. It was defeated by a party line vote in the committee. Opposed by the Democrats. The Securities and Exchange Commissions chief accountant actually wrote that this was a classic case of "socializing the risk while privatizing the profits".

Now, let's look at the fact that many of the Senators that blocked this bill, protecting Fannie and Freddie, received sizable amounts of financial support from these two institutions. Guess whose names are at the top. Chris Dodd is first with $165,000. Second, in only two years, is Barack Obama at $125,000. Hillary Clinton is actually 12th with $75,000. These are the people who could have helped to prevent the record number of foreclosures we see to day as well as the unstable market that this country is seeing. These are the very same people who want to oversee the bail-out proposed by the Treasury. One of these people wants to run our entire country.

Now, to quote one of Obama's own ads, "do we really want more of the same?" Or is this the type of change that we can believe in?

Oh, yes. One final thing I found out while reading over all of this material. Guess who was one of the co-sponsors for the bill the could have prevented this whole mess. That's right, Senator John McCain. Who, if enough people educate themselves and truly make a decision that would be right for this country, WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Patriotism

I just saw part of an interview Joe Biden did this morning. He actually said that it was our patriotic duty to pay more taxes. WHAT??? He said it was time to step up to the plate. Now, correct me if I am wrong, isn't this the same type of attitude that we wanted to get away from over 200 years ago when we declared our independence from England? Now they want us to do our part. They want us to give them more money to mismanage. You have go to be kidding me. Obama and Biden keep talking about cutting taxes on the middle and lower class. Tell me this, how can you give tax cuts to people who are not paying taxes to begin with? It is a proven fact that the rich people in this country already pay all the taxes. These are the same policies that lead us into a recession when Clinton was in office. And they talk about Change.

Now, you want to see a patriot, look at McCain and Palin. I also watched the interview of Sarah Palin by Sean Hannity. He asked her some pretty tough questions on a wide range of subjects. I think the thing that stands out the most is that she never hesitated in her answers. It was as if she listened to the question and is so grounded in her faith and beliefs that she immediately answered. No hesitation. Not a lot of himming and hahing (however you spell that). She says that she knows that there are people who don't agree with her, and she could change to try and get their votes, but, she doesn't have time for that. She is not going to change just to try and please everyone. McCain has dedicated his life to service to this country.

I know that I am not looking forward to Obama being President. He talks about change criticizes McCain for having lobbyists as his advisers. Obama has two people who ran Fannie Mae as his advisers on economics. These two made 10's of millions of dollars off this fraudulently run company. Remember ENRON? Once the books were looked into at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, they were compared to the books at ENRON. Obama even received the second most money in contributions from these two companies in the past 10 years. That's right, they gave him more money in the past two years than they did all but one other person in the past 10 years. This is the type of stuff that we are paying for. And the things we have to look forward to.

Where it all started

Now, if you are all like me, you are watching the news and seeing all of these companies going under and asking for the government to help them out. Why in the world should they? These are private companies that are going under because of the inept way that they were run. I mean, if you start a business and then lose everything they don't give you money so that you can stay in business. Why should they do it just because it is a bigger company? Why should they spend the money that you and I give them to bail out companies that took other people's money and then mismanaged it to the point of failure?

Obama is going around saying that the government needs to regulate this more. But, check this out. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was started by the government as a private venture to ensure that more people could buy a home. It started encouraging the current housing situation by buying up all the mortgages that crooked companies like Countrywide were providing to people who could not even afford to pay them back. Then, when these people could not pay their mortgage, that put these two companies in a bad way. Now, the taxpayers are paying $200 billion to keep these companies from going under. The government has been regulating these two companies right into the ground. And, two of the people that ran these companies, and profited quite nicely from them, are two of Obama's biggest advisers on the economy. Why should we trust these people? This is the reason that the real estate industry has gone south.

Obama said, in a two minute message to America, "I approve this message because bitter partisan fights and outworn ideas of the left and the right won't solve the problems we face today, but a new spirit of unity and shared responsibility will." New spirit of unity? Is he kidding? He sounds just like Nancy Pelosi did when she was running and facing becoming the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the most senior Democrat, which party is now the majority of the House and the Senate. I will reach across the isle and involve the Republicans. She has done the exact opposite. She wouldn't even acknowledge the Republicans who wanted to debate the subject of offshore drilling. She took a month long vacation. SHARED RESPONSIBILITY??? What ever happened to holding someone responsible for their own actions? This is a SOCIALIST idea if I ever heard one.

I truly feel that if Obama gets elected, then this country will face some of the darkest days it has in quite a long time. And this is just on the economy.

Then, news has come out that Obama, while he was over in Iraq, he discussed with the President of Iraq and tried to strike a deal to keep all of our troops there until after the election. What gives him the right to do that? NOTHING!!! He wants credit for bringing the troops home. Now, there has been an announcement that the withdrawal will begin very soon. Not all of them, mind you, but, a withdrawal none the less. Obama is NOT the President, and hopefully never will be. This, along with all of the other anti American things that spill out of his mouth on a regular basis, is borderline treason. Don't get me wrong, I respect his right to have a different opinion, and his right to speak this opinion. That doesn't mean that I have to like it. And, I don't. I don't want him to be President. I don't even want him in the Senate. But, since he is not representing my state, then, I guess I will have to put up with him in some way.

Simple Economics

I had thought about blogging yesterday, but, decided to let everyone remember 9/11 however you wish to do so. I had several moments of silence and watched the news coverage while working to get my reports done.

Today, I was going to write about things to try and remind you all of who it was/is that responded to the attacks and how brave men and women put their lives in harms way each and every day to keep this country safe. Of course, I am talking about the men and women in the respective uniforms of this country. While, I usually talk about the Military, this is intended to also include the Police Officers and Fire Fighters throughout this country who provide protection on a local level. They too, are heroes who help to maintain the people of this country safe from it's enemies. So, let's all give a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who wears a uniform in service of this country.

Alas, something has come up that I feel needs to be mentioned. If there is any reason for Congress to get off their collective butts and lift the ban on drilling in this country, Ike is providing substantial proof that we need to do it NOW!!!! A friend of my wife's called us this morning and told us that gas went from $3.80 to $4.99 from 10pm last night to 2am this morning. There are stations here that are limiting the amount of gas that you can purchase at one time to 10 gallons. That's not even 1/2 a tank for our family vehicle.

Along with the drilling, we need to build more refineries. The majority of our refineries are in the area that is being affected by Ike. As a matter of fact, the largest refinery in the U.S.A. is in Houston and is now shut down and evacuated. This storm is what is causing the price of gas to go up so drastically. If we had our own oil and other places to refine it, then we would not have to worry about a storm coming through quite as much. There would be other places that we could rely on to provide the demand.

Also, along with this is this stupid "windfall profit" tax that Obama and other Democrats want to institute on the oil companies. Let me tell you something, anyone who thinks that raising taxes on a company will somehow benefit the people who buy the end product is high. The company will just raise their prices because their costs have gone up. It's simple economics.

I came across some statistics that I found to be pretty interesting. Exxon Oil reported a profit of about $1500 a minute. Now, that is quite a sum of money, however, they also pay almost $5000 per minute in taxes and spend almost $15,000 in other costs such as research and development, the actual refining process, etc., etc., etc. Now, I ask you, if the company is paying more than 3 times their actual profits in taxes, what will their reaction be if Congress raises our taxes? I can't say this enough, IT IS SIMPLE ECONOMICS!!

Lipstick

Yesterday, Obama made a comment that, in and of itself, was harmless. While he was talking about McCain's economic plan, he was trying to make the point that it was the same as Bush's. He said that you can put lipstick on a pig, but, it's still a pig. McCain's campaign people made a big deal out of this. It was all over the news starting yesterday and most of the day today. Now, there is information out there that points to the fact that he may have been attacking Gov. Palin, although in a round about way, I do not believe that there should have been such a big stink made over this.

On the other hand, there was something I read today over at Politico.com that truly got my blood boiling. The head of the Democratic party in South Carolina said that John McCain picked a running mate whose only qualification to be Vice President appears to be the fact that she didn't have an abortion. Sarah Palin is running a state that, land wise, is the largest state in the union. It isn't as populated as other states, but, the mere size alone makes it a pretty daunting task. It is almost half the size of the entire 48 states that make up the Continental United States. Add to this, that she actually has more power within her state than do most Governors, and I don't think there would be too many people who would out qualify her. I mean, she has more power as governor than Arnold Schwarzenegger does as Governor of California.

While I don't believe that there should be too much made of silly things like a common saying, truly attacking a woman the way Sarah Palin has been attacked is absolutely outrageous. The Democrats have made a living out of being the champions for women rights and they are attacking the only woman in the race with words that would never be used toward any man. I know that men can not get pregnant, but this is only the latest in blatant, outright sexist attacks. They have said that she should be home taking care of her kids. Funny, that has never been said about any man. As a matter of fact, Biden made a huge deal out of the fact that he had to be a single dad for a while. Taking the train home so that he could take care of his kids. So, why is Palin being attacked for the same thing, but with a husband to help her take care of the kids?

People just need to wake up and see the Democrats for what they really are. Don't get me wrong, the Republicans have their share of problems as well, but, I am a conservative, so I tend to agree with them a little more than I do the Democrats. But, the Democrats have made a living out of telling people what they want to hear. They are the Champions of the working class. But, their economic plans will make it harder for people to get ahead. This country was made great by the idea of competition and the ability of anyone to make something of themselves. The Democrats want to tax people who have the audacity to make some money and turn the money over to people who don't want to do what it takes to make it. They want to raise the taxes on companies who will turn around and raise their prices because their expenses have gone up (this is also the major reason companies outsource their jobs overseas).

While you may not agree with the Republicans, you have to admit that taking money out of our pockets never makes sense. Obama has disguised this by saying that he will lower taxes for the lowest 50% of earners in this country. Last time I checked, these people don't actually pay any taxes. They get a refund every year that is more than they put in during the year. How can you cut taxes on that? It makes no sense. No sense at all.

Thank you

I will have to admit that I never would have imagined that I would get to say what I am about to say. You see, I looked over at the tracking to see who was visiting my site and reading what I have to say about things. While I was doing that, I noticed a couple of other blogs that I hadn't read before, so, I went and visited them just to see what they were about.

Well, I probably won't be back there again because they are very liberal thinking people. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I just have a hard time understanding how people can think the way they do.

Both blogs included a link to my blog entry about Climate Change. Now, to be honest, it is about Global Warming. Climate Change is the newly accepted way to say it. You see, that entry was spurred by a congressman that touted a report that said Climate Change was somehow affecting African Americans more than non-hispanic white people. It seems that the liberal minded people in this country have a way of making everything about race. Besides, I don't believe that man has as big an affect on the change in the earth's climate as the liberals want us all to think. If we think that we can affect God's work then we are in much more trouble than whatever climate change will do to us.

So, to springdew and serpentdove thank you. I never thought I would make that big of an impact that quickly. I just enjoy putting down what I think.

Proud to be an American

Now, be honest. Whose chest swelled with pride after Sarah Palin's speech last night? I truly believe that she put the Obama/Biden ticket on notice. Notice that they had better not underestimate her. I know that she didn't write the speech, but, she delivered it flawlessly.

I like the fact that she didn't even waste her time with Biden. She went straight for Obama. And the points she made were right on target. She seemed to be relaxed, not nervous at all. She is smart. She is beautiful. And she knows what needs to be done and has the gumption to do it.

She hasn't let all the media crap over this past week get to her. The media in particular has tried every angle to get to her. They have attacked her as a mother and as a politician. The left thinking people, who by the way are the ones who say they advocate women's rights, are the very ones who are saying that she should be home with her kids, not running for the White House. They also don't realize that by attacking her this way, they have exposed themselves to only truly wanting to defend abortion. They don't believe in women's rights, they just think that abortion should stay legal. They have gone back on the things that they tell us they believe. She had a good zinger for them too. She said that she is not going to the White House to win their approval, she is going to serve the citizens of this great country (I paraphrased that a little).

The democrats have tried to attack her experience. Let me say this again, loudly.......SHE IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, OBAMA IS. She even had some things to point out about that. She was the mayor of her home town. That means that she had to run that town, keep it in budget and ensure that all of the services were provided to their citizens. And, since it isn't that big of a town, she had to look at every single one of them citizens in the eye. She then went on to be on a board of some kind (I forgot which one it was), but, she saw some corruption going on, brought it up all the way to the Governor and got no resolution. So, what did she do? She quit the board and ran for Governor against the incumbent of the same party and defeated him in the primaries. Then got elected. She then has routed out corruption and pared back the expenses, starting with her perks first. She got rid of the luxury jet (sold it on e-bay) and the private chef.

She has a 80% approval rating in the state of Alaska. That's unheard of in politics.

I will say it again. I think that she was a brilliant pick for Vice President. The polls will show you that. After the Democratic convention, Obama was leading 48% -40%. The last poll I saw was 42% - 42%, and that was before Sarah Palin spoke last night. I can hardly wait to see what they look like after this convention is done.

Obama and Biden don't know what to do. They think that they should have this huge lead and they don't. I truly believe that the American people are getting tired of the media shoving them down our throats. They are also already tired of the attacks on Palin. This woman has taken it in stride and come back out fighting. Like she said, "the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull, is lipstick."

I would be remiss if I didn't point out the cutest moment last night. They showed the family. The youngest daughter, Piper, was holding her little brother, and just like a little momma, she licked her hand and ran it across his hair to mat it down.

Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

Time for me to chime in

I know that I haven't written in a while, but, to be quite honest, the Democratic Convention pretty much just made me ill. How so many people can be wooed by someone who promises change but is so blatantly the same old left wing, liberal, democratic politician is beyond me.

President Clinton's speech was filled with so many things that I can not even begin to comprehend how he could get up there and say them. He attacks an economy that is growing. One that had declined during his presidency and was on the decline when Bush took over. There were so many things that he tried to blame on Bush that you could actually point to his Presidency it was unreal.

I couldn't even bring myself to listen to another of Obama's orations. He speaks well when he has a prepared speech in front of him, but, let him speak off the cuff and he falls completely apart.

Now, let me comment on McCain's announcement on Friday. He chose Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska (just in case you missed it). If you are like me, you said to yourself, "he chose who?". I will admit that I had never heard of her before Friday. I had to do a little reading and a little thinking before I wrote this post.

I personally think that this is a brilliant move by McCain. He went against conventional wisdom, but in a way that should keep him in the good graces of the conservative base. He also broke away from the convention by choosing a woman. She is a conservative herself.

She won the election to be governor of Alaska by beating the incumbent in the primary. That is fighting against the odds in and of itself. She has fought corruption in her home state. In the two years of being governor, she has quite a track record for making executive decisions.

I will admit that I had some issues with the lack of experience. McCain has had a field day attacking Obama's lack of experience. But, she isn't running for president, Obama is.

This campaign is turning into something to watch. Either way, it will be history in the making. If the media gets its way, we will have the first black man in the White House. If they don't, we have the first woman in the White House. No matter which way you choose to vote, history will be made.

Me, personally, I don't want to see the black man win. Not because I don't want a black man to win, I just don't want this one to win. I think that he is too far out to the left. I also feel that America can't afford the kind of change that he is proposing.
